And a few days pass

I haven't blogged again for a few days, but mainly because not much interesting has happened. I played a decent session of NL50 over at OnGame again, and finished up playing some Badugi that night, a little tipsy too. Horrible mistake. I won a little and decided to move up. Firstly to start getting some VPP's flowing in, and secondly to see if the players at the higher level were all that good. I pretty quickly dumped an amount of money just never being good, 3 different ways. Either chasing a Badugi with a A23r or 245r type of hand against someone standing pat or drawing and hitting and seeing villains J or K high at the end, holding a fairly bad Badugi against a drawing player and having them hit at the end, or just holding a good badugi and getting coolered by a better one. The funds they disappeared, $120 into $6 in no time. The next night I was too tired to grind NLHE properly, so decided to re-invest in the lowest Badugi game, and ran the opposite to get up to $30 and quit it, instead deciding to player some NLHE on pokerstars. An hour or two later I'd doubled that and felt pretty good about how things went. Then Friday, with some drinks behind, I busted the account. I again ran like shit playing Badugi. It's an extremely hot or cold game I've come to realise. I think my strategy is actually firming up quite a bit, but there is nothing you can do if people draw two cards and hit an A345r on your 2456r or if your opponents are standing pat and you never hit your draws. However, this time I couldn't be saved in NLHE either, getting sucked out on for a big pot with KK vs Q9s AIPF, and getting coolered to empty my account. I'm very disappointed, as I wasn't playing seriously, but still managed to lose more than I won playing serious NLHE during that week (maybe not quite), so what's the point? I've decided playing while drunk for fun is not only -EV, but it's also a waste of time. I have fun playing and winning, whether I'm drinking or not, so why not play when I'm more likely to win, and not play when I'm drinking and relaxing?

So the weekend was a huge blast, but nothing poker related. I ended up having about 1 hour I could have played, but wasn't in the mood, so happily decided not to.

Last night I grinded again, and ran like crap. QQ was no good against AKo pre flop, I got sucked out on after the money went in against a short stack, and then got runner runnered twice by two aggressive opponents when I'd decided to hand control over to them and called down 2 or 3 streets with TPTK (should have raised the flop and been done with it probably). I also got absolutely brilliant starting hands or flops and was forced to fold turns or rivers, when the pressure was just too much and there was nothing I could really beat. I was making a lot more by not hitting, because at least I could just cbet and be done with it if I faced resistance. I ended up forcing a big bluff out of someone against my trips and finally won a couple of pots to come back to pretty much even, but it felt like a cursed night overall, and I'm not even that proud of how I plaed my biggest winning pot.

Oh well, probably have one more crack at poker before Christmas tonight, and then let the festivities commence!
